Quiet alley in Trastevere, Rome

Today’s travel photo is of a quiet alley in the neighbourhood of Trastevere in Rome, Italy. Trastevere is a popular neighbourhood with the locals in Rome, with a kind of rustic, arty vibe, and a thriving dining and nightlife scene. The area sits just across the River Tiber from central Rome and is a nice alternate place to stay if you don’t want to stay in the centre of things, but still want easy access to all of Rome’s attractions.

I spent a morning wandering around the streets of Trastevere and I found it to be an intriguing place to explore, full of old buildings and narrow, cobblestone streets and alleys. In many ways, it is the imperfections that I liked, and this photo of a quiet alley really portrays the sort of scene you might see in Trastevere. A worn, cobblestone pathway leads between crumbling old buildings, while an ancient vine grows almost wild up the wall, and at the end of the alley there is a crowded cafe where people are having their morning coffee. I feel I could spend days just wandering around in Trastevere, people watching and exploring the narrow laneways.
