More about Santa Maria Novella

With its striking green-and-white marble façade designed by Leon Battista Alberti, Santa Maria Novella is a masterpiece of Gothic and early Renaissance architecture. Inside, it houses an impressive collection of art, including Masaccio’s groundbreaking Holy Trinity fresco, as well as works by Giotto, Brunelleschi, and Ghirlandaio. The peaceful cloisters and the adjacent pharmacy, Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, are also worth exploring; the latter has been producing perfumes and herbal remedies since the 13th century.
