Two young monks admiring a beautiful pedestal that houses the Pha Bang in Luang Prabang, Laos

As I entered the fairly new temple of Haw Pha Bang in Luang Prabang, Laos, these two young monks entered just after me and seemed to be admiring the temple as a tourist just as I was. Haw Pha Bang is a very elegant temple, and rightly so as it has been built within the grounds of the Royal Palace to house Laos’ most sacred treasure, the Pha Bang. As you can see from the above photo, the Pha Bang wasn’t in the temple when I was there, and was instead housed in the Royal Palace Museum. Still, even without the sacred treasure within it’s walls, the pedestal built to house it is impressive in it’s own right, just as these two monks seem to be finding out. Laos is a magical country that I can’t wait to return to.
