The Eiffel Tower at night in Paris, France

It seems only fitting that the first photo that I publish from my recent trip to Paris should be of the Eiffel Tower. It is, after all, the city’s most famous landmark. We first visited the Eiffel Tower during the day, and as I expected, I wasn’t wowed by it. In my opinion, other sights such as Notre Dame are much more interesting. There is no doubt that it is an interesting structure and certainly an icon of Paris, and we did the mandatory romantic picnic on the grass in front of it, tried to avoid the enormous mass of tourists surrounding its base and moved on to see other more interesting things. When we returned to the Eiffel Tower one chilly evening, my thoughts changed entirely. We sat down on the same patch of grass, waiting for the sun to disappear. When it did, the lights turned on and the tower came to life. At night, it really is just magical, and now I understand why it is one of the most popular landmarks in the world.
