An ancient stone face at the temple of Bayon in Angkor Thom, Cambodia

Today’s travel photo is of an ancient face carved out of stone at the temple ruins of Bayon in Angkor Thom, Cambodia. Bayon is one of the most impressive sites in all of Angkor, and is certainly the jewel of Angkor Thom – a huge ancient city in Angkor. It is characterized by these huge carved stone faces that sit on top of the towers that dominate the temple. There is something very ancient and wise about these faces that drew me and made me linger in the temple for a lot longer than I had planned.
