A lioness watching a herd of zebras in Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania

Today’s travel photo is of a lioness patiently watching a herd of zebras on the grassy plains of Ngorongoro Crater, Tanzania. It is amazing how well the lions blend in with the grass, and although some of the zebras seemed aware that there was something there, most continued to graze, oblivious to the fact that there was a predator lying in the grass only a short distance from them. There were other lionesses in the area as well, and we waited here for a while to see if they were going to make a hunt, but this lioness seemed quite happy just to lie in the grass for a while and watch and wait. They were in no hurry.
